| "Carving out a Place" Project | | The focus of this project was to work with a group of indigenous young people (who live in and around the Healesville community), and develop and deliver a projection art project where the young people had the opportunity to explore their own stories, their Indigenous heritage and how they are linked to the place in which they live.
The title of the project, Carving Out a Place, refers to the physical act of carving and shaping material, an act with a long tradition in the history of artistic practice. It also refers metaphorically to the notion of shaping our place and carving out a position for us within that place.
Interested and selected young people (up to 15) worked with the artist/facilitator by attending a structured and facilitated workshop program in a local facility. During the workshops the young people explored, expressed and refined their stories through the creation of artworks using new media. The projection art will then be projected onto Healesville Memorial Hall.
The artwork/s created by the young people will be temporarily located inside and outside Healesville Memorial Hall to create an artistic landscape that tells the stories of Indigenous young people living in and around the Healesville community.
