| A joint initiative between the Shire of Yarra Ranges and VicHealth's Art and Environment scheme, this two-year project commenced in June 2003.
Its goal is to promote community mental health and well-being by encouraging social connectedness and economic participation, and by valuing the diversity of community members. An evolving community capacity building process has seen artists, both local and external, working closely with the community to create a number of ephemeral and permanent artworks at Yarra Junction.
"Creative Junction Day", held on 17 April 2004, was a series of free art and environment workshops at the Yarra Junction reserve, ranging from working with ochre, clay and found objects, to storytelling, basket-weaving and walking the land.
Local and visiting artists and educators took part in these workshops, working closely with residents and friends in activities that celebrated and drew inspiration from the people, place and history of Yarra Junction.
| On Saturday 30 April 2005, the Shire of Yarra Ranges, in partnership with VicHealth, celebrated the completion of the Creative Junction project with the launch of two permanent sculptures which have been installed in the Yarra Junction Reserve precinct.
The first sculpture is titled Meeting Place of the Manna Gum Peoples, by Savaad Felich, and the second is titled Always Been Here, Always Will Be, by Glenn Romanis.
The launch was part of the opening of the Yarra Junction Aquatic Centre celebrations.
