New Library Service in Monbulk
Media Release Date:03 February 2012
Monbulk residents are now able to access a new library service at the Monbulk Living and Learning Centre.
Yarra Ranges Mayor and Chandler ward councillor Graham Warren said the new community reading room was part of Council’s commitment to improved library services in the Yarra Ranges.
“The service replaces the mobile library service which stopped at the centre just once per week,” Cr Warren said.
“Open six days per week, the Community Reading Room provides a space where library members can browse, borrow, return, reserve and collect library materials.”
Cr Warren said newspapers and magazines were also available to be read in the reading room, and centre staff are available to assist if required.
“The reading room has made a fantastic addition to the centre. The numbers of community members accessing the service is growing by the day” he said.
It also features the latest technology, including a self-service check-out system where people can return and borrow items.
“Council’s community link staff will be available at the centre for library members who need assistance through the check out process.”
The centre also provides computer and internet access. Visitors can access the free WiFi service on their laptops, smart phones, iPads and tablets to take advantage of the free internet service. There are also desktop computers available for the community to book for free and use.
The community reading room is open from 9am to 5pm Monday – Friday and 9am to 12pm Saturday.
Residents who are not members of Eastern Regional Libraries can join by simply going into any one of Yarra Ranges seven libraries and speaking to a librarian. The nearest library to the Monbulk Living and Learning Centre is located in Reynolds Lane, Belgrave.
