Lillydale Lake refilled

Media Release Date:30 July 2012

Lillydale Lake has been refilled, ready for sailing and canoeing this summer.

The lake was emptied in early May, in an effort to kill the invasive weed Egeria densa which had hampered recreation.

Yarra Ranges Mayor Graham Warren said the program was extremely successful.

“This is a terrific result for the overall health of the lake and local wildlife,” Cr Warren said.

During the drawdown period, Council also took the time to inspect the safety of all boardwalks, shorelines and sand areas around the lake. Melbourne Water, who are responsible for the lake’s operations, have undertaken repairs to improve the flow of its outlets and waterways.

“Residents can now fully enjoy the lake and surrounds with the assurance that all infrastructure is up to standard,” Cr Warren said.

The lake will be restocked with fish in time for the September school holidays.
