Whistleblowers Protection Act

The Whistleblowers Protection Act (2001) came into operation on January 1, 2002 and we are subject to this act. The main objective of this act is to encourage and facilitate the reporting of improper conduct and detrimental action by public officers and public bodies. The act provides protection to whistleblowers who make disclosures in accordance with the act and establishes a system for the matters disclosed to be investigated and for rectifying action to be taken.

The act deals with information about disclosures concerning serious misconduct or maladministration  in the public sector. For us this could relate to a councillor, the Chief Executive Officer or a staff member.

If you would like to make a disclosure under the act contact our Protected Disclosure Coordinator.
