Open Air Burning

The Yarra Ranges is divided into three areas, Urban, Residential and Rural under the Open Air Burning Local Law 2007. The purpose of this local law is to:

  • control the use of open air burning
  • encourage alternative disposal and recycling
  • minimise the nuisance caused by smoke
  • allow burning for the purpose of fuel reduction for fire prevention purposes.

You can download the local law and the application for a permit to burn from this page. Burning off is prohibited without a permit during the CFA Fire Declared Period. Check the CFA website for details
