Yarra Ranges & Dandenongs Tourism Signage Commitee

Yarra Valley & The Dandenongs Tourism Signage Committee

The Yarra Ranges Council approved a Tourism Policy and Action Plan in August 2009. One of the five goals of the Action Plan is to increase visitation, length of stay and improve experience of tourists. Effective tourism signage is a key plank in achieving this goal. An industry working party determined that establishment of a broad based tourism signing committee to assist inform decisions about tourism signage applications and rationalization, and provide advice to both business operators and responsible government agencies would be the most valuable action the Shire could take to assist visitors reach their destinations efficiently. For more information and committee details please read the Terms of Reference attached.

The Yarra Valley & The Dandenongs Signage Committee have projects currently underway as follows;

Sign booth project

Four stylish new Sign Booths are planned for the region and construction is scheduled to commence this year. (See Fact Sheets for photos and updates)

             Generic Map

A new ‘generic map’ which will be made available to tourism operators, industry bodies, Visitor Information Centres, regional townships and others is in production. It will also be a key feature in the Sign Booths so visitors to our region would see consistent  way-finding instructions, roads and attractions wherever they go. This new map will be seen everywhere tourist signage appears and it is hoped it will be widely adopted as the map to use by tourism operators as well.

            Pull out maps

A smaller more localised map showing points of interest, places to go and things to do will also be produced for the new Sign Booths and the Township Signs planned throughout the region.

            Historical content

Historical information plays an important role in drawing visitors to our region and our history is rich and intriguing everywhere we look.  This information is being gathered and will be an integral part of the Sign Booths.

Township Tourism Visitor Signs Project

New Township Signs which reflect the contemporary design of the Sign Booths will be rolled out from June 2013 (see related documents). They will also feature pull out maps of their area and be a point of reference for visitors to the many towns and villages throughout the shire.

Visitor Maps

Visitor maps for Warburton & Yarra Glen are available.
