Tourism
Tourism is a major driver of the local economy in the Yarra Ranges. We encourage and support growth in this area, creating more employment opportunities and managing impacts on the environment.
In the Council's Vision 2020 Community Plan, the Yarra Ranges Community sets out its aspirations for the year 2020. By this time it will have achieved a national and worldwide recognition as both a tourism and cultural icon.
Yarra Ranges Regional Marketing is the peak industry body covering the Dandenong Ranges, Yarra Valley and surrounds.

Tourism Policy and Action Plan
With more than 1.6 million visitors a year coming to the Yarra Ranges to enjoy the scenery, world-class wineries and popular attractions, the tourism industry provides about six percent of jobs and makes up about four percent of our economy. There is huge potential for development and expansion, especially given the region's close proximity to metropolitan Melbourne and our extensive range of outstanding natural and built tourism assets.
In 2008, Yarra Ranges Council consulted with stakeholders in the tourism industry and residents to successfully complete its vision for the tourism industry. You can view a copy of the Tourism Policy and Action plan on this page as well as supporting information and surveys.
